Amsterdam Rugby 7s and our inevitable response to the current corona virus effects.

March 20th , 2020

Due to current concerns around the spread of COVID-19 and after careful consideration, based on the official Government guidance, we have taken the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Amsterdam Rugby 7s tournament, which was due to take place from May 30 through to May 31st.

The fluidity of the current situation obliges us as a responsible organisation to take all reasonable measures to protect people’s health. That goes for the local community, all participants, our large volunteer base and for everyone that would be traveling to Amsterdam for what would have been the 49th Amsterdam Rugby 7s. The Amsterdam Rugby 7s will engage with everyone involved, and work with all parties to come back next year with an even better event for 2021.

As our teams come from across the globe we do not think postponement is a viable option. Finding a date that will allow us to use the current sporting accommodations will proves be a very complex challenge and the chance of succeeding is unlikely.

So we’re asking all teams, sponsors and everyone who has purchased a ticket to be patient while we work on a concise plan for the next years edition. We can confirm all purchases will be valid for next years tournament and we will communicate details as soon as we are in a position to do so.

Please feel free to contact us with all your questions and we will do our best to answer as soon as possible taking into account the information we have provided above.
